Herceg-Novi, a town of sunshine, is situated in the southern part of the Adriatic Sea, at the entrance to the bay of Boka Kotorska. It has over 200 days of sunshine yearly, and an average temperature of 17 Celsius degrees (10 in January, 26 in July).

The town was founded 615 years ago (in 1382). It is still decorated by several fortresses from the Turquish, Venetian, Spanish and Austrian periods. Rare examples of flowers and decorative trees are cultivated there. The most beautiful among all is the natural park called Savinska Dubrava, and there are also many monuments from the remote and more recent past of the place. While, in winter period, skiing competitions are being organized on the slopes of the mountain Orjen, mimosas blossom and the traditional "Festival of Mimosas" is organized at the same time at the beach of Herceg-Novi. Thanks to natural beauties, tourists are especially numerous during the winter season. Igalo is a health resort known for its Mediteranean Health Centre for Recreation and Treatment, and Centre for Rest, Recreation and Treatment (exploiting mineral water and healing mud). There is, for the purpose of recreation, an attractive promenade arranged along the beach, called Pet Danica (between Igalo and Meljine, 7 km long). The town has a memorial museum, archives, and an art gallery. The tourists can indulge in water sports. There are numerous places of interest in the neigbourhood of the town, all accesible by busses, ships or boats.
